Calendars of eternity and time

In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. – Acts 2:1721 NIV.

The last days: a season when heaven is preparing to wrap up the affairs of God’s kingdom on earth – preceding the return of the blessed Lord and King Jesus Christ. However, this season is not measured by human standards using the measuring instruments of time such as seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years. It is a season measured by heaven’s standards and only those who stay in intimate and obedient fellowship with the Lord will understand this season. You see, eternity has its own calendar and it’s not the same as that of earth; the Bible makes this clear to us when it said: But beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day (See 2 Peter 3:8).

Consequently, the affairs of God’s kingdom on earth are based on eternity’s calendar and not earth’s calendar; God desires that His people will have understanding of this. If we are going to be beneficiaries of the outpouring of God’s Spirit and enjoy the signs/wonders He promises, it is first required that we allow the Lord teach us to distinguish between His work (in eternity) and that of men (in time). For instance, God told Noah to urgently prepare an ark against the coming flood but it took about 100 years of earth time for the floods to come (See Genesis 5:32; 7:5,6). You know why it seemed that long? It’s simply because God uses eternity’s calendar for His work on earth and not our 24-hour clock!

On the other hand, God is also able to shorten/speed up His work on earth even if it was naturally supposed to take decades to accomplish. I mean, He can compress time and, for His kingdom sake, make things happen way faster than they could have been (See Romans 9:28). I said all these to say just one thing: the last days is not time-determined but eternity-determined! Once we get that, we will be able to get aligned easily with the move of the Holy Spirit on the earth and He will work in us and through us; we will know what God is doing on the earth per time and also how we can fit in to His plans. We will not be afraid of global events because we know that the end of the road for us God’s people is salvation and not destruction. We will become a source of light and hope to many, and they will come to know our precious Lord as one who delivers those who call on His name!
