God’s people are a special people among all those who live on earth; His special blessings rest on them because they’ve placed their faith in Him – trusting Him for salvation, deliverance, healing, provision and protection. If you are a child of God [through faith in Christ His Son], then understand that you are beloved and highly treasured by your heavenly Father. However, He expects us to respond to His love and blessings by seeking Him. He knows you already but He wants you to know Him too, and that cannot happen at a distance. He wants you to come close… and stay close. He wants more than a relationship… He wants fellowship.
Of course, I understand that fellowship requires time and commitment – and God does understand too. But the beautiful thing is that He rewards time spent in His presence, and He also rewards your commitment by committing Himself to your wellbeing – both spiritually and physically; the psalmist says it better in Psalm 91:1-2.
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!” – Psalms 91:1-2 AMP
The shelter of the Most High simply means spending time [personally or secretly] in God’s presence. For instance, you find a quiet room/space where you can be with Him all alone (without the interference or distractions of social media on your phone or computer); you determine to pray, worship, read the scriptures and listen to His voice as He speaks to your heart – that’s what it means to dwell in His secret place. You learn to do this on a regular basis; you could make a habit of rising up early in the morning and spending an hour daily in His presence.
Doing this on a regular basis strengthens your trust in God’s ability to protect you from all forms of danger, evil, sickness and disease (read the rest of Psalm 91). He will create an invisible ‘iron dome’ around your life and as a result, the missiles and arrows of the devil will always fall short of reaching you. You will get to know Him as the Most High, the Almighty, the Lord (conqueror of principalities and powers of hell) and your God – having a personal, intimate and loving knowledge of Him. Isn’t it amazing that He wants you to know Him in more than one way? I mean, He’s inviting you to come and sit on His fatherly laps so He can talk to you and teach you about Himself.
It will do you a whole lot of good to seek & dwell in God’s presence daily (pull out your Bible now and slowly read through Psalm 91); sadly most Christians only visit God once a week at church, but He doesn’t want that. He wants those who will create a space for Him in their homes, spend time in His presence daily and carry His presence with them everywhere they go. He wants committed lovers, and not visitors!
