And David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” (1 Chronicles 14:10).
God knows everything that concerns us, His knowledge about our lives cannot be fathomed, He knew us even before we were formed in our mother’s womb. The scripture says that He knew the number of our days even when none had begun.
I mean nothing about us is hidden from the knowledge of God. He says that even the hairs of our heads are numbered, and He has written our names in the palm of His hands.
God does this so that we can acknowledge Him in all our ways, so that we can have the understanding that He is very concerned about every tiny detail of our lives.
However, do we often inquire from God before we embark on anything?
The scripture says that we should trust in the Lord with our hearts and not lean not on our own understanding. That in all our ways we should acknowledge Him, and He shall direct our paths. (Proverbs 3:3-6).
Acknowledging God involves enquiring from Him before we do anything. Sometimes when we walk according to our own understanding; human wisdom, knowledge, or experience, we may make decisions in life which we may come to regret later.
God has the entire blueprint of our and when we depend on Him, He will direct our paths.
His ways can never be our ways, nor His thoughts our thoughts. That is why the scripture says that there is a way that seems right to man but its end is the way of death. (Proverbs 14:12). And indeed, many have perished thinking that they were moving in the right way.
One of the ways that we inquire from God is through His Word. The word of God contains instructions and directions for our lives.
This is why the Psalmist said this; Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalms 119:105). Before we take any step in life, we must get direction from the word of God. For the word of God contains wisdom that will help us to live victorious lives here on earth.
How many times do we encounter situations in life that need us to make decisions that will determine the course of our lives?
In such situations do we stop first and ask what might be the will of God in whatever we want to do? Through the word of God, we will get the wisdom to make the right choices in life.
Another way of inquiring from God is through prayer which is simply communicating with God.
And, finally for today, God can speak to us through dreams and through others.
Whichever God chooses to reveal His will to you, it is important to ensure that it is indeed from the LORD by checking that it does not negate His Will or His Word.
Also, just because someone else once received the word of God regarding His direction for his or her life, it does not mean that the same instruction is God’s leading for you. Test and be led by the Holy Spirit always.
As we saw in our opening scripture (1 Chronicles 14:10), David had the power to attack the Philistines because he had an army to that, but instead of relying on the might of his army, he stopped and asked whether he should go up against the philistines.
I believe this is one of the reasons that God refers to David as a man after His own heart. We can also be men and women after God’s heart if we involve God in all of our decisions….
