The Pursuit of Peace

Peace is a feeling many people hanker after.

No matter the level of achievements or accomplishment, without peace of mind,  none of these will be enjoyable. Not totally.

Many go to great efforts to achieve peace of mind. They buy “how to” books, products and services, take part in activities that even remotely hint at being able to deliver rest of mind. Many even take or consider taking risks.

People of all ages, race or creed long for peace. Because of this desire, many are exploited by unscrupulous people and groups.

What is peace and why do a lot of humans desire it so much?

The Oxford English Dictionary defines it as “freedom from disturbance , tranquility.

It is also described as a calm state of mind, and agreement and harmony between people.

The bible even encourages us to be at peace: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone..” Romans 12:18

Be in harmony with everyone.

Apart from yourself, there is another sovereign being who desires peace for all mankind. That is God; the creator of the universe.

He gives us peace like no one or nothing else possibly can.

In the book of John, chapter 14, verse 27, the bible states: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Jesus Christ wants us to be at peace with ourselves and with others. And not even as it obtains in the world.

The kind of peace the Lord wants for us is perfect peace.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep him in perfect peace,

Whose mind is stayed on You,

Because he trusts in You.

How can you obtain perfect peace. The kind of peace that no matter what is going on around you or with you, you remain in perfect peace? We do not live in a trouble-free world yet it is possible to have perfect peace.

As Isaiah 26:3 puts it, you can have it if your mind is ‘stayed on God.” And if you trust in Him. Trusting in His Sovereignty, His love, His faithfulness, His mercy, His Word.

That is how to have perfect peace.

We do not know the future. At best, we can only predict. But God knows and He says to just trust Him and we will have peace. His thoughts towards us are thoughts of peace and not of evil. Now and in the future. Jeremiah 29:11.

Perfect peace is available to everyone especially in the midst of the world’s chaos. You can have it by simply making a decision. Trust God. Put your focus on Him.

If you do not yet have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, and you desire this peace he can give you, you only need to believe that he is Lord and confess him as such. Ask him to be your Lord and Saviour and you will be saved. One of the benefits of this new relationship with Christ Jesus is Peace.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

If you want to have this eternal life, you can make this confession right now.

Lord Jesus, –

I am sorry for my sins

I ask you to forgive me of my sins

I believe that you are the son of God

I believe that you died for me

I believe that you rose again

I ask you to be the Lord of my life

If you believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and have confessed him as Lird and have also invited him to be your Lord and Saviour by saying the prayer above, I congratulate you and welcome you to a new life in Christ Jesus. You can now have a relationship with God as your father.
